No students for over one lakh engineering seats in TN

Over the years, engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu fail to attract students. This year too, as many as 1,18,887 seats in the engineering colleges across the state had no takers. According to a source, only 57.35 percent of seats in the self-financing engineering colleges have been filled for the current academic session. Even the private polytechnic colleges in the state have faced the same trouble as 1,01,121 seats are now lying vacant with only 48.39 percent being filled. For the impediment, engineering college teachers blame the policies for excess seats implemented by All India Council of Technical Education, while polytechnic teachers condemn the government’s skewed policy that has adversely affected the students.
